Wire Types of Pre-crimped Screen Fabrics
1. Mild Steel / Low Carbon Steel
2. Black Wire: Black steel wire, also known as high carbon steel wire, which offers greater hardness. With added manganese, it becomes high manganese crimped wire mesh with increased wear resistance, mainly used in mining screens. Common manganese steel types include 45# Mn and 65# Mn.
3. Galvanized Wire: Used in crimped wire mesh with small wire diameter for barbecues.
4. Galvanized Redrawing Wire:
Compared to galvanized steel wire, redrawing wire undergoes one less annealing process as detailed below:
Average galvanization process: Rod - Drawing - Annealing - Drawing - Annealing - Galvanizing.
Redrawing wire process: Rod - Drawing - Annealing - Zinc Plating - Drawing.
Due to this processing difference, galvanized redrawing wire has more strength but slightly less corrosion resistance compared to regular galvanized wire, making it more cost-effective.

Tips: Weight Calculation of Crimped Mesh

Calculate crimped wire mesh weight per square meter using this formula: (wire diameter × wire diameter × mesh count ÷ 2 × n). Note: Mesh count = 25.4 ÷ (aperture + wire diameter).

When using large crimped or intermediate weaving mesh, n equals 1.13. For fine wire diameters, it is 1.1. Wire diameters of 4mm and above are considered large.

The machine crimping is done before weaving, with weft wire feeding by hand and automatic warp wire feeding, designed for thick wire.

Automatic Wire Mesh Crimping Machine

Also known as Light type machine, the automatic wire mesh crimping machine can be categorized into one-off machines, universal machines, and whole machines.

• One-time crimping machine comes with a one-time set of embossing dies, allowing weft wire to be crimped and woven with the fixed warp wire.
• The universal wire mesh machine can achieve crimping and weaving with one mold set, adjustable for various mesh openings.

Fully automatic weaving machine is capable of weaving steel wire ranging from 0.4mm to 2mm in diameter, making it suitable for barbecue crimped mesh, partition panels, light fencing, etc.
