vinyl coated chain link.. It costs about 1/3 less than galvanized chain link mesh.

It holds it color for about 10 yrs... depending on the color you choose it would either begin to fade or just get soiled from the acid rain.

If you choose white chain link mesh, it gets dirty real fast.... And if you have berry trees or bushes that birds like to sit in, the fence will get soiled. Yuck.

If you choose black, brown or even a reddish color brick.. they fade out, but they do so evenly. You would likely not even notice the fading unless you did a chain link repair somewhere along the line.

Galvanized.. like previously stated.. it would last about 25 maybe even 35 yrs before needing paint. It may tarnish, turn a solid grey in color rather than the shiny silver, but that is the extent to its turning anything... Rust is eons down the road.
And yes, if painted it would likely last another 10 to 20 or more years on top.

The bad part about galvanized is the sheer look of jail cell... its not very eye friendly. It is used around schools for its durability and long lasting abilities.

If around the house I would suggest choosing a black, or a green... or even a brown color of chain link mesh.

If you have a white home with black trim, a black fence would look awesome.
If you have that same house in whatever other color with a white trim, which is mostly the case, white would look just as awesome, but like I said, it gets dirty very fast.

Vinyl coated chain link has flexibility.. if you have a dog that likes to dig under fences, vinyl coated chain link will simply bend out of the way, letting him run for the hills.. Galvanized has almost no flexibility. You could likely play soccer against it and not damage it in the slightest way.

In fact a good comparison is to say that vinyl coated chain link is the mattress.. it has bounce and movement.
Galvanized is the box spring... it is as hard and stiff as a brick.
